If the subject line is blank, we don't even open the email. It is helpful to include your language pair(s) in the subject line and if you don't, make sure you specify them in the body of the email. Never use text message abbreviations like "u", that will get your email deleted faster than anything!

http://www.pandltranslations.comJanine Libbeyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05383927684339832020noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6590759761377846671.post-37134321246177735752009-05-09T05:05:00.000+08:002009-05-09T05:05:00.000+08:00I can relate to everything in the article. Yet this leaves Russian, Mandarin Chinese and Arabic, out of the equation.

It is time to move forward and discuss the subject of a common, non-neutral international language, taught worldwide, in all schools and in all nations.

I would personally prefer Esperanto.

If you have a moment have a look at http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-8837438938991452670. Your blog made me reflect on a happy two months spent in Bamenda earlier this year.

You are right to say "Since the recent attempts at globalisation necessitate high-level human transactions, present strides towards bilingualism are justified". However, you don't say bilingual in which languages. The person who is bilingual in Ewondo and French is lost if trying to communicate with people in, say, Finland or Bulgaria. There are, as you know, bilinuals within Cameroon who cannot even communicate with one another. The person who has learned German at the Yaounde Goethe Institut is lost when dealing with Spanish-speaking countries.

Have you considered the planned international language Esperanto? On 31 January I attended the AGM of the Cameroonian Esperanto Association in Douala. It was held entirely in Esperanto.

Take a look at www.esperanto.netBill Chapmanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12810992711601197508noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6590759761377846671.post-739366718298726072009-03-27T04:40:00.000+08:002009-03-27T04:40:00.000+08:00cool list of apps! I am talking flashcards and repetitions as part of a game or other scenarios. This frees teachers to do more interesting tasks during the class time, they currently don't have time for.

2) Computers can help to acquire vocabulary and pronunciation guidelines by things like graded reading with built-in dictionary or by synchronized text and speech.

3) Services, when provided centrally, allow to accumulate statistics from multiple students and can be used to perform analysis that teachers do not have energy for. For example, even with simple exercises, a computer can show when majority of a class was not able to do it correctly. This means a teacher is able to go at a faster speed and computer will notify when something needs to be revisited.

There is a lot more that can be done, yes with computational linguistics. It is just not being done yet.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
