Great information! I'd also like to suggest that new translators be very professional when sending emails to translation companies. If the subject line is blank, we don't even open the email. It is helpful to include your language pair(s) in the subject line and if you don't, make sure you specify them in the body of the email. Never use text message abbreviations like "u", that will get your email deleted faster than anything!

I see that President Obama wants everyone to learn another language, however which one should it be?

The British learn French, the Australians study Japanese, and the Americans prefer Spanish. Yet this leaves Russian, Mandarin Chinese and Arabic, out of the equation.

It is time to move forward and discuss the subject of a common, non-neutral international language, taught worldwide, in all schools and in all nations.

I would personally prefer Esperanto.

Hello from a bilingual country, Wales. Thank you for your thoughts here. Your blog made me reflect on a happy two months spent in Bamenda earlier this year.

You are right to say "Since the recent attempts at globalisation necessitate high-level human transactions, present strides towards bilingualism are justified". However, you don't say bilingual in which languages. The person who is bilingual in Ewondo and French is lost if trying to communicate with people in, say, Finland or Bulgaria. There are, as you know, bilinuals within Cameroon who cannot even communicate with one another. The person who has learned German at the Yaounde Goethe Institut is lost when dealing with Spanish-speaking countries.

Have you considered the planned international language Esperanto? On 31 January I attended the AGM of the Cameroonian Esperanto Association in Douala. It was held entirely in Esperanto.

The claim that 50 % of letters of credit fail on first presentation is correct however less dramatic than immediately meets the eye.

Most companies do not know how to prepare the documents required under a letter of credit. Result: they have to fix the discrepancies between the documents presented and the documents required under the LC before they get paid.

Might be worth to hire a professional LC doc preparation service which charge about $ 300 to avoid these discrepancies.
